About Us

Serving
Northeast Kansas

for over 30 years!

Industrial Maintenance, Inc., was established in 1986 by Tony Stein in Lawrence, Kansas and employed five millwrights. The company worked to establish initial business relationships with some of our current clients, such as UPS and Berry Plastics. At that point, the facility provided limited fabrication services. In 2009, Todd Harrington rejoined the family owned and operated business and brought with him the vision to expand IMI, pressing for fabrication services and seeking larger projects. Eventually, the business moved from Lawrence to Perry, Kansas, and revenue rose staggeringly as the company’s fabrication options grew.

In 2012, Todd acquired IMI from Tony, and began to focus on the pet food industry, UPS service work, and sought out more lucrative opportunities to help expand the company to an even larger degree. Again, the revenue increased substantially, and focus began to shift toward formal certification to produce UPS components, the implementation of a comprehensive quality and safety program, and the acquisition of more specialized metal fabrication equipment. As a result of the mutually beneficial relationship between IMI and UPS, work with UPS expanded to out-of-state jobs, component manufacturing, and full facility fabrication and installation.

In 2017, Industrial Maintenance, Inc. made the move from Perry to a larger Topeka, Kansas location. With an ambitious and forward-thinking mindset, and a team of excellent people who work tirelessly every day to do whatever it takes to get the job done, IMI has grown 1900% since 2009 and employs well over 80 people. We will continue to aggressively pursue relationships with potential customers and maintain excellent rapport with our current clients by aiming to provide quality craftsmanship, on-time delivery, and the expansion of our capabilities as not only a millwright and fabrication shop, but an eventual job shop division that will focus on the full fabrication of large and complex components. We cherish the relationship that we have with our clients, vendors, and fellow employees, and are committed to nurturing a workplace that is conducive to achieving the best results possible.

Convergence of IMI with DCS

In early 2023, IMI joined the Designed Conveyor Systems family bringing together two companies that strive to satisfy their customers while sharing common cultures and values.  The convergence of the two companies creates an opportunity to increase service levels, offerings and capacity all aimed at benefiting the end customer.
